When I was a kid I delivered the Springfield paper to the neighborhood which included the Ricketts residence on Garfield Ave. On Saturdays I would often chat with Ormonde and Charlie as they lounged on their front porch. They were always eager to see the paper as they had played football for SHS the night before. When I told them my name, they decided to call me Bucky Walters instead, which was fine by me as I always thought Ormonde was such a cool name. Great guys, both of them. Dan Walter May 29, 2021

I am so sorry for the passing of Mr Ricketts. He was my gym teacher at Schaffer in the 80s I ran into him a couple years ago when he was in the hospital, still exactly the same, so nice, friendly, smile on his face. I brought my old yearbooks up for him to look at, he got a kick out of it,looking at his pictures out on the football field, looking and remembering students, he laughed when I brought up,how his face got real red when he was mad ! My Condolences to his family, he wwas a very special person who touched many lives and will never be forgotten. Sincere Sympathy

And from another point of view - from my view as his big sister, only Orm - of us four siblings - had the sweet, now angelic, disposition of our mother Beatrice Black Ricketts. With my condolences to his sons and their children of whom he was very proud. Linda Ricketts Nolten, Naperville, IL.

I used cut his hair at Roosevelt Barber Shop and he was real cool and crazy fellow. My children later had him as a teacher at Schaefer Junior High! Nice fellow. My sympathy to his children!

I just found out that Coach Ricketts has passed away. My heart is broken because I can honestly say the reason I am a football coach today is because of Coach Ricketts. His passion for the game was contagious. He taught me a lot about how the game of football should be played. One of my proudest moments as a coach was when Coach Ricketts surprised me by attending my first game as a college head coach at the University of Dayton After the game I had the privilege of introducing coach to the team in the locker room. I will never forget that moment or any of my time with Coach Ricketts. I will miss him. My prayers are with the Ricketts family.

My condolences to Charlie and the rest of the Ricketts family on the passing of Ormonde. I will always remember him as Coach Ricketts from my days at Springfield North. He was an impressive figure.

Ormonde and i were football/basketball teammates at SHS. Coach called Ormonde to go into the basket ball game ; he jumped up , quickly pulled down his sweat pants and his trunks came down with them. A brief moment of exposure , but it gave us a lot of laughs.. Great guy , well liked , regrets.

Mr. Ricketts was my PE teacher at Schaefer Jr. High in the early 80’s. We was a tough teacher and had some of the most colorful stories. He and Mrs. Barringer were probably 2 of the most influential teachers that I had. My sincere condolences to the family.

My prayers and thoughts are with the Ricketts family. Like many others, I knew him as Coach Ricketts at North. He served his nation and his community so very well and left many positive impressions on the young men and women that he came into contact with. I remember him fondly and was always so impressed with his drive and determination and dedication to his work and students. Farewell Coach!

Ormonde was a very unique and distinguished individual. Many aspects of his life were substantial and few really knew of his many accomplishments. He was a great athlete, playing football at OSU for Woody Hayes. His service experience afforded him the opportunity to lead soldiers into battle; he always came back but many he was with did not. He was a leader to student athletes, most notably at Schaefer Junior High and North high Schools. Ormonde never lacked intensity and his enthusiasm motivated his athletes to collectively transform to their highest levels of performance. He was quite intelligent and usually had a story or two or three that was relevant to the topic at hand. Many are not aware that Ormonde obtained an education as a counselor after his tenure in teaching and coaching in public schools. He became an employee of the State of Ohio working as a counselor at prisons. Inmates respected him because he respected them and he could talk their language with great precision. I knew Ormonde's sister, his brother, Charlie and his dad who worked with my dad at Wittenberg University. We became close friends and he would often visit me when I was coaching baseball at Municipal Stadium. Sometimes, he would arrive in his convertible and insist that I get in because he wanted to provide me with "Great exposure" and a ride to cool off. There was never a dull moment with Ormonde and between us, we always managed to see someone we knew and we would stop to talk with Ormonde providing relative stories from his life experiences......all true and sincerely stated. He was a very reasonable person with great wit and a genuine sense of humor! Rest In Peace, Ormonde and hold your head high, sir, for giving us your proud, earthly life! Know that I greatly valued your friendship and will surely miss you until we meet again!

Darrin, Jason, Sam, Charlie and all of the Ricketts family. We are sending our deepest condolences and prayers at the loss of your dad and brother. I have had the great pleasure of spending a lot of time with Ormonde over the years , on and off the football field. We spent several years together coaching football at Springfield South. I played against his team at Springfield North. Coach Ricketts cared deeply for his players, and they loved the intensity and manner in which he coached those young men. I had the good fortune to spend time with him at Lake Sylvan, Offenbecher’s Winnebago and countless lunches and dinners at the Elite cafe, so many conversations on a wide array of topics. Coach Ricketts was a positive influence in my life, and contributed greatly to the positive development of his players and students. I loved listening to his stories about Woody Hayes and Ohio State football, so much history. I always admired and greatly respected his military service during the Vietnam War, a HERO in my book !!!! I could go on and on about Coach Ricketts, what an amazing man!!!!! Sending prayers and positive thoughts!!!! Coach Jim Dimitroff, Cindy and the Dimitroff family.
