Moon, William J., 87, of Springfield, died November 23, 2014 in Eaglewood Assisted Living. He was born September 5, 1927 in Dayton, OH to Leroy and Catherine (Phares) Moon. Bill retired as a welder from Navistar after 36 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, K of C. #624, Eagles Aerie 397, Union Club, V.F.W. Post 1031, and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Ruth A. (O'Connor); two children and spouses, Patrick (Cara) Moon, LaQuinta, CA and Marilyn (Mark) Coy, Indian Lake, OH; two stepchildren, Richard (Cathy) Williams, Fairborn, OH and Cassie (David) Ditmer, Enon, OH; three grandchildren, Mariah Moon, Caz and Jad Coy; four step-grandchildren, Christa (Martin) McComas, Heather (Tom) Booher, Brian (Tammy) Botkin, and Allen Ditmer; a sister, Kay Moore; two brothers, Dick (Charlotte) Moon and Dan Moon, Springfield; numerous great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews, including Ed Moritz. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane, in 1981: a brother, Joe Moon; and a sister, Mary Moritz. Friends may call in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donation may be made to Catholic Central High School Football Program.
