Spalding, William "Bill" Oliver, 79, of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 in his home. He was born in Marion County, Kentucky on August 27, 1937 the son of Robert M. and R. Edwina (Buckman) Spalding. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer, U.S.S. Hailey from 1956-1960. He worked as an X-ray Field Engineer for 40 years, retiring from General Electric Medical Systems in 2003. He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church, where he was an active member of the Rosary Club and was a faithful volunteer at the Rainbow Table at St. John Lutheran Church. Bill was always giving to others. Most of all, Bill was a loving father and papaw who was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Carolyn (Ross); son, Alexander (Susan) Spalding; two daughters, Marcy (Marc) Spurgeon and Amy (Eugene) Young; step-daughter, Cathy (Bob) Jumper; sister, Jean Allen; grandchildren, Thomas (Hannah) Young, Michael Spalding, Joseph Young, Caleb Spurgeon and Anna Spalding; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces, great great nephews and his faithful dog, Maggie. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; Dolores Schmelz, Dell McClellen and Josie Spalding and brother, Robert Spalding. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. Friday, April 14 in CONROY FUNERAL HOME. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 15 in St. Raphael Church with Deacon Norm Horstman and Pastor John Pollock officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.
