Rawe, Virginia Lee, 92, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, January 13, 2017 at her residence in Oakwood Village. Virginia was born on December 11, 1924 in New Martinsville, WV to Leo and Marie (Blatt) Keough. She was a lifelong Catholic and member of St. Bernard Catholic Church. She was a Registered Nurse and graduated from Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital School of Nursing, New York Medical College, New York City, NY and attended Wittenberg University, Springfield, OH and Antioch College, Yellow Springs, OH. During World War II she was in the US Cadet Nurse Corps, St. Albans Naval Hospital, Queens, NY and had a 35 year nursing career at Mercy Hospital with a variety of nursing positions in Clark and Champaign Counties, Ohio. She was active in many local organizations, including Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association and the Parish Nursing. She was also a longtime member of the Kiser Lake Sailing Club. She was survived by four children, Barbara (Keith) Hill, Robert Lee Rawe, Judith (Gary) Lloyd and Susan (Kevin) Schwarz; nine grandchildren, Debra (Scott) Robinson, Eric and Arthur Rawe, Ryan (Courtney) Lloyd, Michael (Sarah) Whipp and Kacey (Grant) Widmeyer, Patrick (Jamie), Dylan and Erin Schwarz; nine great grandchildren, Lane and Logan Robinson, Grace and Lilly Lloyd, Lincoln Widmeyer, Anna, Abby, Katie and Danika Whipp; three siblings, Mary Barber, Bill Cross and Mary Catherine Fitzsimmons; and many nieces, nephews and very dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Robert George Rawe; and one sister, Gertrude Keough. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Church. Inurnment will be held at St. Bernard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Bernard Catholic Church or Greater Dayton Hospice.
