Sutherland, Thomas L., 65, of Springfield, passed away Friday, November 21, 2014 at The Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 2, 1949 in Springfield, Ohio to Chester F. Sutherland and Marjorie (Everhart) Sutherland Thornburg. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Deb (Monaghan); three children and spouses, Matt (Bethany) Sutherland of Miami, Florida, Kayla (Zach) Carson and Kelley Sutherland of Springfield; grandson, Eli; sister, Joyce Cummins; two brothers, Larry (Barb) Sutherland and Rich (Denise) Sutherland, all of Springfield; step-father, Elbert Thornburg; many brothers- and sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews; best buddy, Izzy and grand-dog, Millie. He was a 1967 graduate of North High School and a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. He worked at Navistar for over 35 years and was a proud member of the Local 402 before retiring in 2004. Tom loved nothing more than spending time with his beloved family. He enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening, mowing the lawn, grilling and cooking, coaching soccer, mushroom-hunting, spending time by the pool, and spring-breaking on the beach. People were drawn to his wily sense of humor, pride in his children to whom he gave roots and wings, and enthusiasm for his hobbies. Tom received a kidney transplant in 2004 and was very grateful for this tremendous gift and the wonderful time it allowed him to share with his family and friends. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday in CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Raphael Church followed by burial in Ferncliff Cemetery.
