NUSS, Thomas B., 87, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, January 5, 2019 in Southbrook Care Center. He was born May 20, 1931 in Springfield the son of Clarence and Katherine (Freidrich) Nuss. Tom worked as a meter reader and was later head of the department at Ohio Edison. He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church and former member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge #33 and was a United States Marine Corp veteran having served in the Korean War. He was a longtime trumpet player and had his own orchestra, The Tommy Ray Orchestra. Tom also taught trumpet at Kinkaid's Music for many years. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Joann (Thornton); four children, Chris (Carol) Nuss, Tim Nuss, Sue Ulliman and Mike (Carol Sharitz) Nuss; eleven grandchildren, Darius, Lajuan, Kerby (Carol), Ryan, Nick (Emeline), Ben, Kelsey, Emily, Katie (Jeremy), Daisy (Chris) and Chris; four great grandchildren; one sister, Ruth (Tootie) Jacobs; one brother, Richard (Liz) Nuss, sister-in-law, Louise Nuss and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Sharon, three sisters, Mary Garry, Lillian Field and Dorothy Nuss; two brothers, Edward Nuss and Clarence "Bud" Nuss. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:10 pm on Friday in St. Raphael Catholic Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to St. Vincent DePaul.
