Swonger, Ronald G., 82, of Springfield, passed away on March 28, 2016 in Oakwood Village. Ron was born on July 2, 1933 in Springfield, the son of Marion and Helen (Stone) Swonger. He had been employed as a Battalion Chief for the Springfield Fire Division, retiring in 1991 with over 31 years of service. He was a veteran of the United States Army, a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Masonic Lodge and St. Andrews Lodge 619. He also spent his time as an usher at OSU football games, volunteered at the Memorial Golf Tournament and was an avid bicyclist. Survivors include his wife, Sondra A. (Terry); two children, Kathy (Jim) Day of Springfield and Glenn (Dawn) Swonger of Tampa, FL; six grandchildren, Trent, Cara, Nicole, Ryan, Ronald and Jessica; five great-granddaughters, Teagan, Ardyn, Tenley, Sloane and Raelynn. Friends may call in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME from 4:00pm-6:30pm on Friday April 1, 2016, with a fireman's turnout and funeral service immediately following in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the Springfield Paramedic Fund.
