Skabla, Robert N., 85, of Springfield, died July 28, 2014 in his residence. He was born July 5, 1929 in Springfield, OH to Nicholas and Mary (Boswell) Skabla. Bob retired as an experimental molder with Vernay Laboratories. He was a former member of Hope Lutheran Church and attended Donnels Creek Church of the Brethen, life member of the National Rifle Association and the Ohio Gun Collectors and was a U.S. Army Korean War Veteran. Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Patricia (Blake); three children, Brenda (Stacy) Cantrell, Williamsburg, VA, Diana (David) West, Athens, OH, and Karen "Denise" Weathers, Springfield; three step-children, Robert A. (Deborah) DuVal, Vivian L. (Verne) Harmison and Gerald L. (Barb) DuVal; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother, Albert "Tiny" (Shirley) Skabla; a sister in law, Kay Skabla; and a good friend, Carl Loney. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Grace I. in 1997; two sons, Nick and Vince Skabla; and two brothers, Norman and Frank (Sandy) Skabla. Friends may call in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME from 5-7 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with Pastor Tad Hobert officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.
