Robert D. Shay

Shay, Robert D., 79, of Springfield, died Monday, June 22, 2015 in Miami Valley Hospital. He was born November 29, 1935 in Springfield, OH to Robert W. and Julia (Penwell) Shay. Bob retired in 1994 as Superintendent of Materials at Navistar after 38 years of service. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Life Member of the American Legion and was a United States Marine Corps veteran of the Korean Conflict and also served in the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Carolyn A. (Hook); four children and spouses, Colonel John (Meg) Shay, Mentor, OH, Lisa (Jed Taylor) Shay, Springfield, Karen (Dave) Holly, New Carlisle, OH, and Angela (Mark Hobson) McCreight , Kansas City, KS, son in law, Jim McCreight Leavenworth, KS; three grandchildren, Molly (Chris) Slusser, Christopher and David McCreight. He was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Foulke. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday in St. Bernard Church. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Bernard Church or Mueller Residential Center.
