MARTIN, Richard Urban "Dick", 90, of Springfield, passed away Saturday, June 10, 2017 in Oakwood Village. He was born January 4, 1927 in Springfield, Ohio the son of John A. and Emma (Schmackers) Martin. He was a 1944 graduate of Catholic Central High School and attended the Dayton Art Institute. He was an accomplished artist and photographer, winning numerous awards for his work in exhibitions and arts shows locally and in the Midwest. Dick was a graphic artist and illustrator working in a civilian capacity for the US Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and the Pentagon. He also worked at The Dayton Processing, B & L Advertising Art Studio and CENTRIC Communication. Upon retirement he continued working as a freelance artist and wedding photographer. He was a member of the Springfield Ad Club and the Photographic Society. Dick enjoyed golf, bowling, and fishing and was an avid Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State fan. He was an active member at St. Bernard Catholic Church. Survivors include his two children, Mary Ellen Martin and Daniel J. & Holly (Deeds) Martin; 2 grandchildren, Michael and Emma Martin and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Martha in 2002, his parents, four brothers, Ambrose, Jerome, John and Eugene Martin and two sisters, Helen Rita Martin and Rosemary Cooper. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday in St. Bernard Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to St. Bernard Catholic Church or Clark County Right to Life.
