Smith, Richard Shively, 80, passed away Monday March 21, 2016 in Villa Springfield. He was born in Springfield, Ohio on March 22, 1935 the son of Richard L. and Marguerite (Riley) Smith. He lived in Springfield until the middle of his senior year when he moved to Lakewood, Ohio and then attended Ohio State University. He returned to Springfield in 1970. He worked in financing as a banker for the former Springfield Bank, but mostly dealt in auto finances. He spent the latter part of his career as a lease consultant to auto dealerships. Outside of his career he spent countless hours mentoring many people. He was a grateful recovering alcoholic of 46 years and helped many others with their recovery. Survivors include his wife, Joanne (Weber), whom he married June 29, 1957; four sons, Andrew (Judy) Smith of Deadwood, South Dakota, Jefferson (Denise) Blackburn-Smith of Columbus, Rudy (Lina) Smith of Naperville, Illinois and Joel (Lindie Keaton) Smith of Yellow Springs; grandchildren, Rosemary (Tim) Kellison, Erin Blackburn-Smith and Zachary Tyler of Atlanta, Georgia, Gaelan (Dana) Shively of Columbus, Solomon (Samantha) Smith of Rapid City, South Dakota, Woodlin Smith of Deadwood, South Dakota, Molly and Connor Burkesmith of Pagosa Springs, Colorado and Landon Rhoads of Yellow Springs; brother, David Smith and sister, Susan Johnson both of El Paso, Texas and brother-in-law, Gerry Weber of Walla Walla, Washington. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Dylan Burkesmith and sister-in-law, Jean Weber. His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in CONROY FUNERAL HOME with Bruce Heckman officiating. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service.
