RUTROFF, Richard Dean, 93, of Springfield, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016 in Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born April 15, 1923 in Springfield, Ohio the son of Oscar and Helen (DeWitt) Rutroff. Dean worked as a supervisor for William Bailey Co. for 44 years retiring in 1985. He was awarded his high school diploma from Springfield High School in 2002. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Dean served proudly in the US Army from Jan. 1943 to Nov. 1945, at the Invasion of Normandy at Utah Beach and the Battle of the Bulge receiving the WWII Victory Medal, 5 Bronze Stars, 1 Silver Star, Good Conduct Medal and the French Liberation Medal. He was extremely active in the years after his discharge as a lifelong member and past Commander of VFW #1031, Life Member and past Seam Squirrel of Military Order of the Cooties PT18, Life Member of Amvets 25, American Legion Post 6, a member of DAV 13 and Machinist Club, and a charter member of WWII National Museum in Washington D.C. Dean volunteered as a Junior Achievement Advisor for 2 years, at the Salvation Army for 4 years and St. Vincent DePaul for 2 years. Survivors include five children and spouses, Mary & Terry Weld, Dansville, NY, Carole & Doug Caylor, Springfield, Dean R. Rutroff, Batavia, Debbie & Bob Putnam, Springfield and Linda & Tom Bostick, Springfield; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-parents, Mary Rutroff and Olan Watts, his wife Loretta "Kitty" in 2012, a brother, Robert Rutroff, a sister, Dorothy Lyons and the mother of his children, Marjorie Rutroff. The family would like to thank Dr. Jerald Dudney, Forest Glen Health Campus, Community-Mercy Hospice and Gem City Home Care, especially Valisha, Alice, Valerie and Emily for the care and comfort they all provided to Dean. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME with VFW Services at 7:00. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday in the funeral home with Fr. Dennis Caylor officiating. Burial will follow in Asbury-Chapel Cemetery.
