Hohlmayer, Reverend Louis R., 89, was born in Springfield on September 27, 1927 to Albert and Louise (Hilbert) Hohlmayer. He was a 1944 graduate of Catholic Central High School. He did his preparatory studies at St. Gregory Seminary and studied theology at Mount St. Mary's Seminary of the West in Norwood. He was ordained on May 30, 1953 at St. Monica Cathedral in Cincinnati, Ohio by Archbishop Karl J. Alter. Father Hohlmayer received his first assignment on June 11, 1953 as an Assistant pro-temp at St. Mary Church, Urbana and was also appointed Assistant to the Chaplain of Mercy Hospital, Urbana. On June 1, 1956, he was appointed Assistant at St. Vincent Ferrer, Kenwood (Cincinnati) and to teach full-time at Purcell High School, Cincinnati. On August 28, 1962, he was appointed Assistant at St. John Church, Deer Park (Cincinnati) while continuing to teach at Purcell High School. On August 25, 1964, he was appointed Assistant at St. Raphael Church, Springfield as well as part-time teacher at Springfield Catholic High School. On August 25, 1965, Father Hohlmayer was appointed to return to St. John Church, Deer Park as Assistant and to teach at Regina High School, Cincinnati. On June 19, 1969, he was appointed Assistant at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Kettering (Dayton). On August 26, 1971, he was appointed Assistant at St. Henry Church, Dayton and Chaplain at Kettering Hospital. On August 22, 1972, he was appointed Administrator of St. Augustine Church, Cincinnati and soon after that on December 29, 1972 he was appointed Pastor. Father Hohlmayer was then appointed Pastor of St. Anthony Church, Dayton on July 1, 1977 where he remained Pastor until 1989. During that time he was also appointed Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus, Council 3730 in November 1986. On July 5, 1989, Father Hohlmayer was appointed Pastor of St. Francis de Sales Church, Lebanon for a six-year term and re-appointed for an additional six-year term on July 6, 1995. Father Hohlmayer retired on September 1, 2001. He had a great sense of humor and loved to play golf. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Eleanor "Sis" Lowe and her husband, Walter "Bud" Lowe; brother, Albert "Boots" Hohlmayer and two sisters-in-law, Patricia (Welch) Hohlmayer, Dolores (Ackley-Welch) Hohlmayer and nephew, Bob Cast. He is survived by two nieces and spouse, Carol Cast and Dolores (George) Simons; two nephews and spouse, Joseph (Carrie) Hohlmayer and David Hohlmayer; great nieces and nephews, Joan Cast, John Cast, Jenny (John) Krichbaum, Lisa (James) Clark, Lori (Christopher) Thompson, Jason (Mindy) Simons, Abby (Corey) Burk, Joe Hohlmayer, Jr., Patty Hohlmayer, Jimmy Hohlmayer, Charles Blake, Cassandra Blake and Catie Gibson; great great nieces and nephews, Morgan, Aidan, Ethan, Katie, Sarah, Abby, Austin, Finn and A.J. Uncle Louis was the best uncle, great uncle and great great uncle and we will all miss him very much. A Reception of the Body will take place at 3:00 p.m. Sunday in St. Bernard Catholic Church followed by a public visitation until 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in St. Bernard Catholic Church with Most Reverend Joseph R. Binzer presiding. Additional visitation will be held Monday in church, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.
