Shipton, Rachel W., 98, of Springfield, passed away Monday, October 13, 2014 in her residence. Rachel was born December 24, 1915 in Clifton, OH the daughter of Jesse and Josephine (Little) Chapman. She worked in the loan department for Springfield Bank and Wren's Department Store for 20 years. She was a 78 year member of the First United Church of Christ, where she served as a Deaconess for many years. She made many home and hospital visits to help others in their time of need. She was a member of the I.O.O.F. Rebekah Eastern Star, where she held the position of Noble Grand. Survivors include one grandson, Eric (Missy) Shipton; three great grandchildren, whom she loved and adored, "triplets" Bryce, Zachary and Paige Shipton; several nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Nadine Tabb-Martin and Mrs. Joyce Fair. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Robert M. Grove; second husband, John Arthur Shipton; her beloved son, Robert D. Grove; her stepson, Robert E. Shipton; sister, Helen "Swaney" Williams; friends, Marjorie A. Shipton and Frances Blancet. The family would like to thank Dr. Timothy Hickerson and staff for their care and compassion over the years. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1:00 p.m. in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME, with visitation beginning one hour prior. Burial to follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Catholic Central Schools Education Program or any Hospice programs.
