Blankenship, Michael L., 69, of Springfield, passed away unexpectedly at 3:24 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2018 in Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus. He was born in Urbana, OH on November 28, 1948 the son of Carl W. and Mildred (Brunotte) Blankenship. Mike retired from Navistar after 37 ½ years of service and recently worked at Oakwood Village in the Maintenance Department. For 32 years, "Mr. B" was a passionate and dedicated coach of junior high school track, cross country and girls basketball at Northridge Junior High. He achieved over 203 wins in basketball and won a CBC title. Mike was active with the Kenton Ridge Boosters and served as President for a short time. He also drove a bus for Northeastern Schools Athletics. Mike was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Phyllis A. (Longo); two daughters, Denise A. Blankenship and Krista L. Crisp of Dublin, OH; grandson, Bryce; five siblings, Barbara (Dick) Runkle of St. Paris, Virginia Fell of Urbana, Roger (Julie) Blankenship, Melvin (Jean) Blankenship all of Springfield and Marilyn (Jerry) Clark of London; brother-in-law, Phil Wagner of Huntsville and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Wagner and brother-in-law, Norman Fell. Friends may call in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with Pastor Mark Krenz officiating. Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Kenton Ridge Boosters.
