Mary M. Sweeney

SWEENEY, Mary M., 95, formerly of Springfield, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016 in her home in Cincinnati. She was born May 30, 1921 in Springfield the daughter of August and Katharine (Hyser) Remmetter. Survivors include a sister, Katherine A. Doorley; four children and spouses, Michael E. & Mary C. Sweeney, Richard J. & Ellen K. Sweeney, Gerald T. & Marie H. Sweeney and Daniel C. & Pam Sweeney; three grandchildren, Nicholas Sweeney, Shane and Megan Abner and one great granddaughter, Maya Abner. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard C. in 1988. Mary received her BA and MA in Language Arts from Wright State University. As a teacher for 17 years at St. Raphael and Holy Trinity Schools, she was devoted to her students. She was equally devoted to her family as a mother. Her sweet spirit brought warmth and friendliness to all she met. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday in St. Raphael Catholic Church with Fr. William Kramer officiating. Visitation will be held one-hour prior in the church. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Mary Rose Mission/Fr.
