Kunk, Mary Kathleen, 54, of Springfield, died October 30, 2015 in the James Cancer Hospital, Columbus, OH. She was born November 28, 1960 in Springfield, OH to James and Alice (Coakley) Carney. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1979 and attended Wright State University. Kathleen was a devoted army wife of 31 years who dedicated much of her life to the needs of soldiers and their families. For her dedicated service she received numerous awards, including being named an honorary Kentucky Colonel as well as recognition from the Department of the Army for Outstanding Civilian Service. She was a warrior in her own right. Kathleen was a humble being with a warm heart and a gentle loving soul. She was a blessing to those who knew her. Her family, especially her grandchildren, was her life. Left to cherish her memory, in addition to her mother, Alice, include her loving husband of 31+ years, Colonel Thomas G. Kunk, US Army, Retired; two children, Sarah (Richard) Bishop, Beavercreek, OH and CSM Matthew (Veronica) Kunk, Columbus, OH; six grandchildren, Alexis, Blake, Tyler, Matthew, Allie and Nick; two sisters, Karen (John) Murphy, Springfield, OH, Teresa (Tim) Myers, Centerville, OH; two brothers, Michael (Beth) Carney and James (Julie) Carney of Springfield, OH; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and beloved friends. Preceded in death by her father James. Friends may call in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday in St. Teresa Catholic Church. Burial in St. Bernard Cemetery. The family would like to express their appreciation for the loving care given to Kathleen by the staff at WPAFB Medical Center, Springfield Regional Medical Center and The James Cancer Hospital.
