Martha Jane Ater

Ater, Martha Jane, 94, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Forest Glen Health Campus. Martha was born April 17, 1921 in Cedarville, OH to Hugh and Eula (Creswell) Turnbull. She retired after 32 years as the owner and operator of ABC Motors. She was also a member of Northminster United Presbyterian Church. Survivors include three children, Douglas E. Ater, Richard (Cathy Saunders) Ater and Susie (Terry) McElwee; eight grandchildren, including first granddaughter, Angie Wilson; 25 great grandchildren; special niece, Gay Steiner; special nephew, Robert Ater; and several great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern, in 1992; two brothers, Walter and James; and a sister, Beth Mullen. The family would like to thank Forest Glen Health Campus, Dr. Richard Darr and Community Mercy Hospice for their special care. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home with Rev. Dwight McCormick officiating. Burial will be in Massie Creek Cemetery in Cedarville, OH. Memorial donations may be made to Northminster Presbyterian Church.
