Marilyn E. Loewer

LOEWER, Marilyn E., School Nurse. "When you read this, I will be dead. I had a wonderful life and enjoyed every minute of it. I lived 57 years with my best friend, lover, and husband -- Hubert Loewer. My family was my first love; however, my second love was being with my many "kids" -- the children, families and teachers I met, and comforted, at school every day. My favorite words to hear were, "You were my school nurse when I was in school." There was never a day I didn't want to go to work/to school to see my "kids." Today, I say "goodbye" to my family, friends and my many, many 'kids.'" Marilyn died on May 3, 2017 in her home. She was born June 12, 1928 in Springfield, OH to Charles and Leota (Elliott) Dugan. A registered nurse for 68 years, she began her medical career in 1949 at Community Hospital, then moved to Mercy Hospital where she helped "open the doors" to the hospital in 1950. After 12 years at Mercy, she moved downtown to the City Health Department. Following 8 years as a public health nurse, Marilyn was hired by the Springfield City Board of Education as the School Nurse Coordinator for all city schools, where she served for 26 years. After her retirement from the City of Springfield, she continued to volunteer in the schools, became a founding member of the Clark County Medical Reserve Corps and member of the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and a volunteer at Kuss Auditorium. Marilyn is a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She is survived by her four wonderful children, David (Paula) Loewer, Deborah Loewer, Kathleen (George) Alderton, and Dennis (Lori Jo) Loewer; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; very special nephew, Terry (Claudia) Brewer; and loving friends Anne (Kevin) Null. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband and a brother. The family wishes to thank the Mitman family for its loving support to "Aunt Marilyn" over the years, and especially for their help these past weeks. Friends may call in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Church. Inurnment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery at a date to be determined by the family. In lieu of flowers, Marilyn's wish is, "I ask that you donate to your favorite charity, or better yet, take your family out to dinner and enjoy time with them. Hold them dear while you still have the time to do so."
