Margaret Marie "Peg" Langen

LANGEN, Margaret Marie "Peg", 89, of Springfield, died peacefully on Thursday morning, May 4, 2017 surrounded by her devoted husband and family. Dementia intruded on Peg's vibrant life fifteen years ago, but throughout those years she lived with grace, courage, love and humor. All who love Peg will miss her smile and laughter but are comforted knowing she is now at peace. Peg was born the eldest of nine children to Lillian and Bernard Copeland on March 25, 1928. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1946. It was at Catholic Central that she met her husband, Gene Langen, and they married on November 25, 1954 after Gene returned from serving in the United States Navy. Peg and Gene were the loving parents of six children. Their youngest child, Bud, died in 1991. Surviving children include Colleen (Steve) Anders of Richmond, VA; Kevin Langen, Gina Langen (John Okuley), and Dan (Tami) Langen, all of Columbus and Kay (Jon) Gray of Scio, OH. Peg was the best Grandma ever to her eight wonderful grandsons: Kyle, Tyler and Ryan Kinsey; Adam Okuley; Christopher and Matthew Anders and Michael and Andrew Langen. Each and every grandson was Peg's "favorite," and they all knew how much they were loved by her. Peg is also survived by her two youngest brothers, Richard (Sharon) Copeland and Michael Copeland of Springfield, brothers-in-law Roger Langen and Allan Langen, as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. Peg will always be remembered for her vivacious, outgoing, friendly personality. She was a tireless advocate for the rights of her physically disabled son, Bud, to participate fully in all aspects of school when he was a student and her gift for communicating with others made her a perfect fit for the positions she held for many years at the Fayette County Board of elections and in the Office of the Attorney General of the State of Ohio. Peg was a lifelong Democrat who believed in the dignity and worth of all people. She took tremendous pride in public service and continued serving others through her volunteer work after she retired. Peg's family extends the most sincere and heartfelt appreciation to the many nurses and caregivers who loved and watched over Peg at Eaglewood Village and at Oakwood Village. It truly "takes a village" to care for a loved one. Thank you all. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon, May 7, from 3:00-5:00 pm at CONROY FUNERAL HOME, 1660 East High Street, Springfield, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Teresa Catholic Church at 10:00 am, Monday, May 8, followed by burial at St. Bernard Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Peg's memory to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
