DALTON, Margaret I. "Margie", 75, of Springfield, died peacefully on February 27, 2013 in her home surrounded by family. She was born February 19, 1938 in Harrisburg, PA the daughter of Frank and Isabel (Ring) Vetere, and raised in Erie, PA. Margie worked as a program administrator for Champaign Residential for 27 years retiring in 2005, tirelessly advocating for the needs of the cognitively and developmentally disabled. She was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church. Survivors include her three sons and spouses, Dr. Dennis & Mary Jo Dalton, Derry, NH, Dr. Robert & Francis Dalton, Columbus, Ohio and John & Eugenia Dalton, Springfield; seven grandchildren; a brother, Frank Vetere and nieces, Heidi and Stacey. Margie loved being a grandmother and enjoyed bringing her grandchildren and their friends to the Northwood Hills pool each summer. She was a woman of many talents and passions. She acted and sang in summer theatre productions, sang in her church choir, wrote articles for the Springfield News-Sun and had poetry published. She was a 23 year breast cancer survivor before recently battling cancer once again. When living in Urbana, she loved preparing her home for the Tour of Homes that benefited the American Cancer Society. She was a joy and inspiration to her family and friends, and lived the values of hard work and sacrifice. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Raphael Catholic Church. Arrangements are being handled by CONROY FUNERAL HOME.
