BEEKMAN, Malenda Sue "Mendy", 43, of Springfield, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. She was born May 30, 1971 in Springfield the daughter of Jerry and Sandy (Caulfield) Penwell. Mendy worked as a phlebotomist for Springfield Regional Medical Center in the office of Drs. Narcelles and Oehlers. Her coworkers and those she cared for in her work had great affection for her. Survivors, in addition to her parents, include two children, Victoria Beekman and Nicholas Beekman, Springfield; two brothers, Jerry (Tammy) Penwell and Danny (Georgiann) Penwell, Springfield; former husband, Brian Beekman; mother-in-law, Lisa Beekman and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Tom and her grandparents. Those close to Mendy will remember her infectious laugh, unending generosity and fierce love of her children. Mendy found great joy in time spent with family and friends. She was very social and people were drawn to her magnetic personality. Mendy was a devoted daughter, a daddy's girl, and a loyal friend. Mendy's children were the center of her life. She laughed with them, comforted them, and pushed them to succeed. Their accomplishments were her greatest point of pride. Mendy's legacy of compassion, determination, and kindness will live on in her children and her beaming smile will live on in everyone she touched. When you think of Mendy, think of her smiling in a field of sunflowers. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, March 14 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME.
