Ackerman, Larry E., 72, of Springfield, passed forward on Saturday, March 4, 2017 in his home after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Springfield on July 12, 1944. He was a 1962 graduate of Shawnee High School and attended Wilmington College and Central State University. Larry retired from Navistar in 2009 after 44 years of service. He was a long-term member of the Union Club, Eagles and Elks. Larry played Softball, was an umpire and loved playing Golf. He was an avid reader and had many friends and cousins. Larry will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 49 years, Marsha K. (Kohl); three deeply loved and cherished children, Caryl Blevins of Dayton, Brian (Katie) Ackerman of Atlanta, Georgia and Julie (Ronnie) Massie of Springfield and six grandchildren, Matthew, Sophia, Grace, Adeline Ackerman, Kayla and Hannah Massie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Ackerman and Isabel Jane (Stewart) Boerger. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday in CONROY FUNERAL HOME. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Dan Powell officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
