Johns, Kenneth L., 80, of Springfield, passed away August 21, 2014 in Villa Springfield. He was born May 15, 1934 in Dayton, OH to Kenneth T. and Mildred L. (Wagner) Johns. Ken graduated from Mariemont High School in Cincinnati and went on to work at the Sisters of Mercy Hospital as an Emergency Room Technician and Surgical Technician. From there he went in to the US Army Medical Corp where he served as a Surgical Tech and Scrub Nurse at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX. After his military service he owned and operated, along with Al Seitz, Alken Creations for 38 years. In retirement, Ken enjoyed painting, traveling, antiquing and floral work for friends and family. Ken is survived by a nephew, David (Christine) Johns; a niece, Debra (Jeff) Newkirk; and friends, Pastor Bud Rose, Gordon Jones, Bill (Carol) Groeber, Bill Groves, Angie Judy, Jane Newton and Bill Frock. He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Johns; and long time friend and partner, Albert Seitz. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the First Assembly of God Church, 515 S. Burnett Road with Pastor Bud Rose officiating. Inurnment will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.
