Shay, Josephine A., 83, of Springfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 in Springfield Regional Medical Center. She was born in Springfield on January 4, 1930 the daughter of James C. and Marie T. (Leary) Fogarty. She worked at Crowell-Collier for many years. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary #1031, F.O.E. Auxiliary #397 and the Union Club. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Christine (Harold) Harris of Springfield; two grandchildren, James Harris and Megan (Matthew) Howells; two great grandsons, Kayden and Nicholas; sister-in-law, Pauline Fogarty and nephew, Robert D. (Carolyn) Shay. She had a special place in her heart for all her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Clarence in 1997; three brothers, William (Dorothea) Fogarty, James (Agnes) Fogarty and John F. Fogarty, Sr.; two sisters, Mary (Godfrey) Kunkel, Greta (James) Glynn and brother-in-law, Daniel Shay. She was well known for her good humor, compassion for others and shared many happy times playing bingo and cards with her dear friends Cookie Henderson, Louise Mitch and Dorothy Steiner. Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Sunday in CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Bernard Church. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Bernard Church or Catholic Central High School.
