Joseph J. Marous, P.E.

MAROUS, Joseph J., P.E, 86, of Springfield, passed away April 28, 2017 in Springfield, OH. He was born in Pittsburgh, PA on Nov 7, 1930 and moved to Springfield, Ohio in 1941. He graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1948. After working for the Robinson Sign Co., the New York Central Railroad and the International Harvester Co. he joined the Air Force in 1951 and spent four years on active duty. Served one year in Korea during the Korean conflict. Graduated with honors from the University of Dayton with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1959. Masters studies in Electrical Engineering was done at the Ohio State University. While at the University of Dayton he served as the President of the Engineering Honor Society and successfully petitioned for the formation of Ohio Theta the first chapter of Tau Beta Pi, the National Engineering Honor Society, at UD. While at UD he also received the iron ring of the Order of the Engineer. He worked over 30 years at Wright Patterson AFB where he became the Director of the Engineering Application Directorate at the A50 Computer Center. In 1973 he was the first place winner of the Air Force Association Award. This award is presented annually for the top achievement in the field of Engineering by an Air Force employee. During his working career, he published many technical papers and made many technical presentations. He was a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Ohio and a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers where he served as President of the Springfield District Chapter. He held many offices in the Midwestern Simulation Council of the Society for Computer Simulation including that of President and served on the National Board of Directors. He was a member of the Springfield Engineers Club where he held many offices including that of President. He is a member of the institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Alpha Sigma Tau, Tau Beta Pi and the Knights of Columbus. A longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he has taught Religious Education classes, served as the Director of Religious Education, a member of the School Board, a member of the Long Range Financial Planning Committee, and a member of the Holy Name Society and a long-time Lector. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Diana (Casson); their 3 children, Joseph J. (Naomi) Marous III, MD, Sharon (Joseph) Francis and Daniel S. (Kathryn) Marous and 11 grandchildren, Emily, Katie, Claire, Dana, Joseph, Nathan, Anna, Sarah, Peter, Lucy and Teddy. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior in the church, beginning at 10:00. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society. The family is being served by CONROY FUNERAL HOME.
