South Charleston

Yowler, Jr., John William 61, of South Charleston, Ohio, passed away peacefully July 8th, 2024. John was a.k.a. “Billy” by his loved ones, those in his community, and most affectionately his mother Marilyn. John was born August 6th, 1962, and raised in South Charleston, Ohio. He was a 1980 graduate of Southeastern High School where he played drums and participated in 4H. He was an artist, musician, and an exceptional jokester. He went on to serve honorably and proudly in the United States Navy from May 1982 to December 1998. During his career, he attained the rank of Electronics Technician First Class, ET1 (SS) or E-6 for the non-Navy folk. He served with distinction due to his attention to detail and technical expertise. After his military career, John was a logistician and technical writer for many programs. He enjoyed and wanted to know everything he could about the latest in space exploration, Ohio State Football, was an avid politico, and most of all keeping up with his family's various exploits, especially those of his children, nieces, and nephews. A beloved son, he was also passionate about his father John Yowler Sr.'s 1920 Huber Steam Engine. Representing the great folks of South Charleston, Ohio, he recently collaborated with NASA’s Artemis mission. He contributed to standardizing designs for a habitat, providing astronauts with essential facilities for research, exercise, and rest in lunar orbit. John was preceded in death by his mother Marilyn (Fields) Yowler, his Grandparents Dale and Catherine (Katy) Yowler, as well as John W. Fields Sr. and Frances E. (Wright) Fields. John is survived by his father, John W. (Carol) Yowler Sr., his siblings Laura Fulton, Jody (Janice) Yowler, and Jan (Todd) Hannan; the many grandchildren of his parents John Sr. and Marilyn including John’s son, Jaime (Soleil) Yowler, his pride and joy, Ben (Nikki) Fulton, Katy (Jonathan) Miller, Seth (Lindsey) Hannan, Becca (Ethan) Cox, Jordan (Craig) Johnson, Sarah Hannan, Matthew (Kirsten) Hannan, Michael Yowler, Brendan Yowler, and Kristen Yowler; as well as many loving cousins, great nephews, great nieces, relatives, and friends. John was a loving son, sibling, cousin, uncle, father, and fierce friend. Right now reading this you’re probably thinking of how he made you laugh, made you mad (or both), or maybe some crazy memory you shared. Enjoy it, life’s too short, so make the most of it, love your family and friends. In his possessions we found a top list of greatest guitar solo tracks: coming in at #1, Comfortably Numb, by David Gilmour (Pink Floyd); # 2, Stairway to Heaven, by Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin); # 3 Sweet Child O’ Mine by Slash (Guns N’ Roses). Information regarding a celebration of life will be published shortly. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the family for an established memorial fund here, https://gofund.me/452f13ff Fair winds and following seas John. Your life, service, and sacrifice will never be forgotten.
