John Sam Petroff

PETROFF, John Sam, 93, of Springfield, passed away, Thursday, April 07, 2016 in Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born August 16, 1922 in Covington, KY the son of Simo and Marusha (Mehoff) Petroff. Together with his late wife, Helen Petroff, he owned and operated the Polar Wine Store, formerly at the corner of Wittenberg and Columbia. He worked as a laborer for The Springfield Metallic Casket Co. and the William F. Bailey Co., retiring in 1989. John was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran, proudly having served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He was a recipient of three Bronze Stars and also was awarded the Purple Heart. Survivors include two children, Linda (Dan) Demma, Enon and Samuel (Antigone) Petroff, Springfield; four grandchildren, Matthew (Kaysi) Demma, John Petroff, Anna Jean Petroff and Stella Petroff. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen in 2005, and his sisters Anna and Tinka. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the entire staff of the Springfield Masonic Community for the excellent care and friendship John received over the past six years. The funeral services will be held at 11:00 Saturday in the Greek Orthodox Church. Family will receive friends one hour prior in the Conroy Funeral Home, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Macedonian Patriotic Organization, 124 W. Wayne St., Fort Wayne, IN 46802.
