McDonough, John P., 85, of Springfield, died October 5, 2014 in the Glaesner Center at Oakwood Village. He was born May 17, 1929 in Springfield, OH to Patrick and Margaret (Krupp) McDonough. Early in his career he served as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Ohio and later went into private practice in Springfield for over 53 years. He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church, graduated from Southeastern High School, Wittenberg University and The Ohio State University College of Law; was a member of the State of Ohio Bar Association, Clark County Bar Association, Irish Fellowship Society, Past President of the Clark County Board of Elections, member of the Knights of Columbus, Toastmasters, Jaycees, Lions Club, March of Dimes, and was a U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Garnett (McKnight); four children, John P.,II, Springfield, Elizabeth, Beavercreek, OH, Michael (Maureen), Rockford, IL and Mark (Lori), Springfield; eight grandchildren, Emily Fulton, Gina, Gabriel, Megan and Arthur Beckel, Cara and Colin McDonough, Connor McDonough; several great grandchildren; a sister, Margaret McDonough; three brothers, Paul (Margaret), Tom (Dorothy) and Mike (Mary Ann); numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen Culp; five brothers, Steve, James, Charles, Robert and Raymond. Friends may call in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with Deacon Norm Horstman officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
