MARTIN, John O. "John-O", loving husband and father passed away October 7, 2015 at Good Shepherd Village, Springfield, Ohio following two years of illness. John was born January 12, 1930 in Springfield Ohio, the son of Ella (McManus) and Charles Martin. He graduated from Springfield Catholic High School where he made many life-long friends and remained a supporter of Catholic Central all his life. John followed his older brother Bob and sister Marion into military service, joining the Navy during the Korean conflict, serving on the destroyer USS Porter and later touring the world. After his service, John returned to his position as a teller at Guardian Bank (now Security National Bank) and advanced to Branch Manager of the West Main St. Office. He later opened the first VISA department at the bank and was Vice President in charge of the installment loan department. John gave many young people of Springfield their first car loan with a stern lecture about repayment. He retired from the bank in 1990, with more than 40 years of service. John was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, Irish Fellowship and Elks Lodge #51. He served as Treasurer for 34 of his 53 years of membership in the Knights of Columbus Council 624. In his younger years, he was a member of the Evening Optimists Club and an advisor with Junior Achievement, receiving an award for outstanding service. John was active throughout his life, enjoying all sports. He was a CYO football official for 25 years and excelled at bowling and golf, playing into his 80's. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Angela (Horstman) Martin, a son and four daughters: Douglas (Robyn) Martin, Cynthia (John) Martin-Shishoff, Deborah Martin (Mark Lechner), Julie Belcher (Ray Alvarado) and Lori (Eric) Martin-Beauchamp, five grandchildren: Sara Martin (Curtis Baldridge), Michael Martin, Olivia Belcher, Jack and Lily Beauchamp, two step-grandchildren Alexandra and Amanda Shishoff and two great-grandchildren Anna Martin and Ethan Baldridge and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and their spouses: Robert (Marian) Martin, Marion (Charles) Lizius, Janet (Arthur) Burns, Roberta (Robert) Hamaker and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Good Shepherd Village and Kindred at Home Hospice Care for the loving care provided to John. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Catholic Central Schools, Springfield, Ohio. Friends may call on from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME with Knights of Columbus services at 4:00. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 pm on Monday in St. Teresa Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery.
