John "Larry" Schuler

SCHULER, John "Larry," 79, of Springfield, passed away September 8, 2017 at 3:31 a.m. in the Springfield Regional Medical Center. Larry was born February 17, 1938 in Springfield, OH to John and Dorothy (Sweitzer) Schuler. He was the co-owner and president of Schuler's Bakery. He began at Schuler's part time for 9 years and full time for 43 years. He retired in 2005. Larry missed the bakery and all of his loyal customers. He was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church, a graduate of Northwestern High School and Springfield Business College, served in the Army National Guard as a medic during the Berlin and Cuban Crisis, for 3 of their homes was the Building Contractor, was a Mason, member of the Jaycees, coached CYO basketball and was Athletic Director for 4 years. He loved boating, water skiing, dancing, traveling and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his wonderful wife of 57 years, Joan M. (Mowery). They were married on July 23, 1960. As well as two children, daughter Kerri (Tim) Yake of Athens, Ohio and son Mark (Erin) Schuler of Holly Springs, Georgia; five grandchildren who loved their Gragger, Rachael, Kyle, Mitch and Gabrielle Yake, and Clint Schuler. Two siblings, Joyce (Bob) Warren and Dan (Sherry) Schuler; Family members he loved, Bob Mowery, Kathy Sample, Tom Mowery, Judy Borders, Betsy Hooper, Patty Adams, their spouses, his many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, Ted; brother in laws Carl Francis Mowery, Dan Mowery and Dick Sample. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Raphael Catholic Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior in the church, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
