ZUGELDER, John L. "Jack", 97, of Springfield, passed away Friday, December 05, 2014 in Oakwood Village. He was born May 20, 1917 in Springfield, the son of John C. and Mary (Hornberger) Zugelder. He was a 1935 graduate of Catholic Central High School. He had worked as mail carrier for the post office for 30 years and worked for multiple machine shops. Jack was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, the Union Club, and the Eagles. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Frieda (Kunkel); eight children, John E. Zugelder, Dorothy E. (John) McNeil, Anne K. Zugelder, Helen F. (Jay) Krumholtz, Paul J. (Chris) Zugelder, Carl D. (Sonya) Zugelder, George A. Zugelder and Alice M. (Don) Laybourne; son-in-law, Ron (Joyce) Sanders; 16 grandchildren, Michael (Jenn) Zugelder, Susan (Dan) Bucher, Joe (Nicole) and Mark Sanders, Brian and Shawn (Kim) McNeil, Jak (Heather) and Frances Krumholtz, John J. (Erin), Alison and Lindsey Zugelder, Shawn Vienhaus and Stephanie (Steve) Sagraves, Josh Whitacre, and Emily Laybourne; 15 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill (Dorothy) Zugelder and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary E. Sanders, three daughters-in-law, Carolyn (Shiddenhelm), Diane (Conley), and Patty (Whitacre) Zugelder, five sisters and one brother. Family extends special thanks for the care provided by Oakwood Village staff and Community Mercy Hospice. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in St. Teresa Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul or St. Teresa Church.
