Richard, PhD., John E., 78, of Springfield, passed away Monday, October 13, 2014 in the Ohio Masonic Home. John was born January 4, 1936 in Springfield, OH to Robert and Mildred (Juergens) Richard. He worked for the Springfield Police Department for 22 ½ years, retiring in 1983 as the acting Chief of Police due to an injury in the line of duty. He graduated from Wittenberg University and Wright State University, and was a member of Rockway Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was also a veteran of the United States Air Force. Later in life he was a member of the Liedertafel Club, St. Andrews Lodge F&AM for 42 years, Noon Optimist and Eagles Aerie #397. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Patricia A. (Payne) Richard; five children, Guy (Judy) Worthington, Pat (April) Worthington, Gail Pape, Cindy Deutscher and Valerie (Paul) Wilson; 11 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and numerous brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME with F.O.P services at 6:40, followed by Masonic Services at 6:50. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. William Schwochow officiating. Entombment to follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.
