EBY, John C., 83, of Springfield, passed away March 4, 2015 in Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born February 18, 1932 in Springfield the son of Samuel and Clara (Snyder) Eby. He was a deacon for the First United Church of Christ that he belonged to for many years. John served two years in the US Army during the Korean War. He graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering and also with a Master of Science degree from The Ohio State University. Like many engineers he could never spell worth a darn. He was a founding member of the Clark County Audubon Society. John enjoyed nature in almost all forms, hunting, fishing and bird watching. Hunting with a gun changed to hunting with a camera after becoming an Audubon member. He was a member of The Western Ohio Water Color Society. While most of his paintings were suitable for display, most were used for the creation of greeting cards and cards for holidays. He had worked for Robbins & Myers, Inc. for many years and retired from Robbins & Myers Materials Handling after the hoist and crane division was purchased from R&M by Kone Crane. He is survived by his wife, Roberta Ober-Eby; two sisters Naomi (Stacey, Sr.) Lloyd and Doris (John) Floyd; nieces and nephews, Ken Floyd, Diana Floyd-Skaggs, Sandra Williams; a special cousin Robert Eby and a close and loving relationship with Wanda Seegraves and Debbie & Mike Murphy. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years who he had married May 19, 1951, his parents and many uncles, aunts and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday at First United Church of Christ with Pastor Gail Eastwood officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior beginning at 10:00 am in the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to First United Church of Christ, 2000 E.
