HINKLE, Joseph J., 78, of Springfield, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 29, 2017 at the Ohio Masonic Home. He was born April 12, 1939 in Tomahawk, KY the son of Luther O. and Ruby (Fannin) Hinkle. He was a 1957 graduate of Inez High School, Inez, KY. Joe earned four collegiate degrees: AB, MA, MS and Ed. S. He taught for one year after college graduation at Inez High School. He then moved with his family to Springfield to teach biology at Northwestern High School, to coach junior high football and later became Athletic Director. He later transferred to Greenon High School as an administrator and teacher until his retirement. Joe was involved in several service activities including the Noon Optimist Club, the Enon Lion's Club and the Springfield Literacy Center. He enjoyed participating in the Clark County Community. He loved teaching and all things science and sports, especially golf. Joe loved his family and will be remembered for his intellect, kindness and humor. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Geraldine "Jeri"; two daughters, Kimberly & Mark Gibson, Harvard, IL and Laura & Kevin Berounsky, Palm City, FL; three grandsons, Samuel, Aidan and Shane; two granddaughters, Grace and Marley; one sister, Faith Hinkle; one brother, Paul Douglas & Judith Hinkle and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Springfield Masonic Home for their excellent care and friendship. Graveside services will be held at 9 am on Saturday in Ferncliff Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Clark County Literacy Coalition.
