O'LAUGHLIN, James W. "Bill", 92, longtime resident of Kettering and Centerville, died September 20, 2013 in his residence. He was born July 26, 1921 in Springfield the son of John W. and Margaret (Ryan) O'Laughlin. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of over 50 years, Elizabeth (Asebrook). He is survived by sons Timothy E. O'Laughlin and wife Charlotte and John W. O'Laughlin and wife Pattie, 6 grandchildren 5 great grandchildren. Bill graduated from Catholic Central H.S. Springfield, Oh. in 1940 and attended 2 years at Desalles College under a football scholarship. He was a Naval fighter pilot during WW II flying a F4F Hellcat and F6F Wildcat. After the war he became a linotype operator and worked at NCR Dayton and then Dayton Daily News and the Journal Herald setting type for this very column. He was an avid golfer and it wasn't unheard of for him to play every day of the week until he was 88 at his favorite course, NCR Country Club South course, and he always walked. He has many friends and family that will sorely miss him. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME, Springfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday in St. Teresa Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery.
