TYREE, Ivan, 79, of Springfield, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2015. He was by surrounded by his wife, daughter, and granddaughter. He was born June 28, 1935 to Emory and Oretha (Richendollar) Tyree in Springfield, Ohio. Ivan was an exceptional athlete and an avid reader, enjoyed many sports, and was a member of Anthony #455 Mason's lodge. As a senior, he was the first Northwestern High school basketball player to be named first team all-county, was first team all-county football, won the 100-, 220- and 440-yard dashes, placed in the high jump to win the league track meet and hit over .400 as the centerfielder on their regional finalist baseball team. Ivan was offered a minor league baseball contract with St. Louis. As an adult, he won a city championship in doubles in the Louis Heil tennis tournament, was an accomplished bowler, member of several league champion teams, and developed a life-long passion for golf. In his search for the perfect swing, he played all Springfield city courses; as his passion for golf continued, Ivan played at Windy Knoll, Northwood Hills Country Club, before it became the Elks. Until the time of his death, Ivan continued to play from the men's tees. lvan studied engineering at Clark State and business at Wittenberg University. He enjoyed a successful career at Navistar International Truck. And after 42 years of service, he retired in 1997 as the General Superintendent of Manufacturing. Ivan leaves behind many good friends, and is survived by his beloved wife Linda; two daughters, Annmarie (Scott) Young of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Leah (Chad) Rumbarger of Dayton; granddaughters Allison of Raleigh, North Carolina; Lauren and Cate of Dayton; and grandson Dana of Richmond, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents Emory and Oretha, his brother Jake, and sister, Betty. Friends may call in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Mullinix, officiating. Burial will be at Ferncliff. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the March of Dimes.
