"Doc" Smith, Howard Storer (DVM), 93, of Fairborn, OH passed away Monday, July 6, 2015 in Hospice of Dayton. Howard was born February 26, 1922 in Clyde, OH to Carl Vincent and Clara Louise (Comstock) Smith. He graduated from York High School in 1940, and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University in 1944. He was self-employed as a Veterinarian for 40 years, retiring in 1985. Howard was a 70 year member of First Presbyterian Church in Yellow Springs, OH, and was a lifelong member of the American Veterinary Medical Society and Ohio State Veterinary Medical Society. He was also a member of the Mayflower Society and the Ohio Genealogical Society. He was a former member of the Lions Club, and the former Treasurer and Co-Chairman of the Yellow Springs Little League. Howard is survived by his wife of 70 years, Phyllis Decker Smith, with whom he spent more than 35 years wintering in Ft. Myers Beach, FL. Among his hobbies were golf, shuffleboard, gardening and traveling. He is also survived by two children, Michael Adrian (Lonna) Smith and Deborah Kay (Kevin) Riley; three grandchildren, Andrew Michael (Yesenia Rios) Smith, Megan Adrianne Riley and Rachel Marie Riley; one great grandson, Diego Theodore Smith; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert C. Smith and Carl W. Smith; and two sisters, Irene B. Schoewe and Katherine L. Clark. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 16 in the First Presbyterian Church, Yellow Springs, OH. Inurnment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18 in McPherson Cemetery, Clyde, OH.
