Tiemann, Helen R., 97, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017 in Sterling Place, Mt. Sterling, OH. Helen was born January 29, 1920 in Springfield, OH to Edward and Mary Elizabeth (Burns) North. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1938, attended Iowa State College and graduated from Wittenberg University where she joined the Delta Zeta Sorority. She also served in WWII with the Navy WAVES. Helen met her husband, Willis Tiemann on a blind date and they were married in 1953. Helen worked at many businesses including Wrens, Olan Mills, Buckeye Incubator, and The Bauer Bros. Co. She was a Title One Reading Teacher for the Springfield City Schools until her retirement. She was a member of St. Teresa Catholic Church and later in life she enjoyed volunteering with her husband at the Crabill House and the Clark County Heritage Center, where a photo of her in her Waves uniform is still displayed. Helen said that the happiest years of her life were those spent raising her children. She loved working in her yard, sharing her plants and flowers, and spending time with her family. An excellent self-taught seamstress, she also taught herself to knit, crochet and how to play the dulcimer. Helen's family wishes to extend a special thank you to Lee and the staff of Sterling Place, for their kindness, care, and support during Helen's final years. And also Easter Seals Adult Day Care and staff. Helen is survived by three children, Karen (Duncan) Highman, Daniel (Gloria) Tiemann and David (Tonya) Tiemann; four grandchildren, Jessica Highman, Laurie (Brian) Nott , David Highman, and Christopher Campbell, three great-grandchildren, TJ Campbell, Emma Campbell, and Elyse Nott, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of fifty-four years, Willis, two sisters, Anna Catherine and Mary Alice (Joseph) Mills and three brothers, Owen, Gene and James. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Visitation will be held one hour prior in the funeral home, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will be held at Rose Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made to Easter Seals/Goodwill, the Crabill House, or the Heritage Center.
