RANKIN, Harold E. "Sonny", Jr., 84, of Springfield, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 29, 2018 in Kettering Medical Center. He was born August 18, 1933 in Springfield, Ohio the son of the late Harold E. and Gertrude (Miller) Rankin. Sonny worked as a repairman at International Harvester for 33 years. He was a United States Army Veteran, a member of the Eagles #397, Union Club and Local #402. Sonny had such a big loving heart for all living things, especially his family. His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his life and will be remembered through all the photographs and videos he took of them. He was the heart of his family and loved having his whole family together for holidays and get-togethers for the laughter and noise. He enjoyed his Wednesday garage nights with all the guys. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Carolyn (Schwartz); four children and spouses, Jeffrey Rankin, Springfield, OH, John & Janet Rankin, Phoenix, AZ, Rhonda & John Readler, Chillicothe, OH and Julie Phillipp, Springfield, OH; eleven grandchildren, Bridget, Daniel, Breanne, Rhyan, Jennifer, Johnny, Mindy, Jimmy, Jordan, Josie and Jay; 8 great grandchildren; one sister, Rosemary & Guy Infante; sister-in-law, Darlene Rankin and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rebecca, three siblings, Mildred Rankin, Robert Rankin and Jeanne Amato and a son-in-law Jeffrey Phillipp. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Thursday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday in the funeral home with Deacon Norm Horstman officiating. Burial will follow in St. Bernard Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to the Animal Welfare League.
