Gloria A. Hixon

Hixon, Gloria A., 88, of Springfield, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 16, 2016. She departed this life peacefully surrounded by all of her loved ones. She was born May 9, 1928 to Richard and Edna Mae (Herrell) Blair. She was raised by special grandparents, Lester and Emma Herrell. Gloria retired after 29 years of faithful service to Kroger's. In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing and stock car driving. She placed second in a local powder puff derby in 1954. In later years she enjoyed crafts, ceramics, cooking and puzzle books. She especially enjoyed shopping. However, her passion in life was being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will always be remembered for her infectious laughter and smiles. She was a member of the UFS union, Union Club and Animal Welfare League. She is survived by her daughters, Louise (Ivan) Taylor, Waleka (Tim) Hetico and Billie Sue (Joe) Blazer; grandchildren, Jill (Mark) Sanders, Jami (JK) Kyler, Wendy (Steve) Swank, Pam Dixon, Blake and Alex Blazer; great-grandchildren, Sloan Kyler, Casey Swank, Noah Wooten, Ella Sanders and Isaac Swank; son-in-law, Gary Dixon; brother and sisters-in-law, Janet Hixon, George and Sonnie Hixon, Pete and Joy Hixon and Carolyn Hixon; special friend, Mary Whitman and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, daughter Sandy Dixon, son-in-law Eddie Adkins, her beloved dog Tiffany, her aunt Louise Vandeveer, cousins Herman (Alberta) Justice and Elaine Pack, brothers-in-law Kenny and Pat Hixon, sisters-in-law Dorothy Crabtree and Luella Davis and several nieces and nephews. Most sincere thanks to the wonderful staff at Forest Glen rehab center and legacy unit. Special thanks to Tara, Valerie, Jennifer and Dillon at Forest Glen. Visitation will be Wednesday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. with services to follow at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Dan Powell officiating.
