Mason, Gertrude "Gertie" Irene, 89, went home on October 21, 2014. She was born October 29, 1924 in Kent, Ohio. She is survived by one daughter, Grace (Homer) Smith, Springfield; one son, Stan (Marion) Mason, Bloomsburg, PA; four grandchildren, Tina (Jeremy) Motter, Springfield, Paula Smith, Beavercreek, Tana (Aaron) Conley, Springfield, and Tom Smith, San Rafael, CA; six great grandchildren, Brandon, Kaleb and Isaiah Redman, Lily Motter, and Allie and Emily Conley; and one great great granddaughter, Kynslee Redman. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; her parents Grace and James Sturgill; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Hattie (Jim) Kelvington and Marie (Ed) McGinnis. Gertie was a homemaker all of her life. She enjoyed taking walks, mowing her grass, gardening, cooking and baking. She loved her church, High Street Church of the Nazarene, where she was a member. She loved to give hugs, kisses and smiles to anyone who would receive them. She loved her family so much. But most of all, she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was a beautiful example of His love. Gertie's death is not a period at the end of her life story, only a comma. A special thank you to the staff of Good Shepherd Village for the excellent care and love they gave her for the past three years. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4-6 p.m. in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. A celebration of her life will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. in the High Street Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Rob Paugh officiating. Burial will be in New Marshfield Cemetery, New Marshfield, Ohio.
