PARKER, George Robert "Bob", 91, died Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Symphony of Dyer, IN. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Jeanne, and his parents, George Henry Parker and Mary Margaret (Finn) Parker. He is survived by his sister, Mary Margaret Kadel of Columbus, OH; four sons: Robert (Renee) of Schererville, IN; Richard of Lakes of the Four Seasons, IN; Timothy (Diane) of Griffith, IN; and Terry (Mary Beth) of Raleigh, NC; 10 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. Born on Dec. 13, 1925, in Springfield, OH, Bob attended Springfield Catholic Central High School where he first met his wife Jeanne. Following service in the United States Navy, Bob graduated from Wittenberg University with a BS in Accounting. Bob spent his career with Blaw Knox Foundry & Mill Machinery Co., where he held the position of Controller at several facilities in Indiana, West Virginia and Pennsylvania. In addition to his way with numbers, Bob could also turn a phrase. He wrote songs and poems, including one which he recited from memory on the occasion of his and Jeanne's 60th wedding anniversary in 2010. He was an avid golfer and fisherman and enjoyed both activities in abundance during his retirement years in Florida. His grandkids remember fondly trips to Florida and rides in the golf cart. He was a devoted family man who took every opportunity to spend time with his grandchildren and relished the chance to enjoy his "great grands" in recent years. He never missed a chance to cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame, regardless of what sport was being played. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 18, from 9:00-10:00 a.m. in the Conroy Funeral Home followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Raphael Catholic Church. His ashes will be interred at St. Bernard Cemetery beside his beloved wife, Jeanne. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Bob's name to the charity of your choice.
