Gibson, Florence McLean (Flo) born August 25, 1928, died January 17, 2015 after a valiant battle with kidney disease. She was born the ninth of ten children to Fred and Lillian Osterman McLean. Flo was a 1946 graduate of Catholic Central High School, a lifelong cheerleader, and inducted into the school's Hall of Fame. George W. Gibson Jr. won her heart and they married on October 7, 1950. He preceded her in death in January 1992 after 42 exceptional years. They had four wonderful children, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. She was employed at Wright Patterson AFB for 27 years; her most memorable position being Executive Secretary to the Base Commander. After her husband, children, and grand kids, her other great loves were gardening, church, music, and bridge. As an avid reader, she appreciated a "good turn of the word," since among her other hobbies were poetry, song parodies, and creative writing. She was a board member of the Mercy Women's Auxiliary and the Women's Association of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra. She was a member of Wittenberg Guild and the Clark County Historical Society. She served on the board and was a member of The Woman's Town Club where she spent happy hours playing cards, appreciating its history and the Ladies of the Club. Flo was an avid sports fan, cheering on Notre Dame, the Reds, Buckeyes, Bengals, and Catholic Central teams. Flo was preceded in death by McLean siblings; John, Fred, Mary Jung, Ed, Bill, Bob, Frank and Joe. She is survived by sons, Bill (Jeanne) of Columbus, Doug (Sonie), Andy (Lisa), and daughter Monica (Jay) Spencer; granddaughters Courtney (Brian) Wayne and Molly (Alex) Meddock; grandson Brian Gibson; and great-grandchildren Gibson and George Wayne; sister Roselyn (Bill) Kiefer, Rochester Hills, MI; very dear companion, Dr. Jim Gianakopoulos; and numerous special nieces and nephews. If you have read this far, you're probably someone Flo really cared for. She hopes you'll miss her, not in a sad way, but happily, for she's still hovering about, savoring a springtime, her flowers, and a lovely melody. Special thanks to Dr. George Varghese and Dr. Pius Kurian. Friends may call at the Conroy Funeral Home from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Raphael Church. In lieu of flowers, you may make memorial donations in Flo's name to Catholic Central High School, The Woman's Town Club, or WASSO.
