Amato, Evelyn (Mae) A., 89 years of Springfield, Ohio passed Sunday, Aug. 17. She was born October 3, 1924 in Springfield, the daughter of Mary (Blachner) and Anthony O. Ianni. She wed Joseph James Amato October 2, 1946 in Springfield and was married 51 years. She excelled in gardening, sewing and enjoyed cooking shows on TV. She adores children and was devoted in nurturing her children, nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Children were the light of her life and she was a Grandmother that could never say "No." She was their favorite playmate. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include her son and daughter in law, Vincent J. and Lynette M. Amato; her daughter and husband; Steve and Mary Jo Barney. Four grandchildren; Nick (Marci) Amato, Gina (Mike) Hughes, Derek Barney, Rachel Barney and step grandson, Cain (Beth) Baugh. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Mason and Sam Amato, Alyssa, Mariah, Mea & Bella Hughes, Brady and Carter Baugh, Nieces & Nephews, and brother, Dante (Ann) Ianni. She was especially close to her nieces and nephews who always gave her love and laughter. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joe, May 31, 1998, Brother Samuel Ianni, Josephine Pinti and Frances Cappelli. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 11-1 pm in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 pm at St. Joseph Church. Burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association or a charity of your choice.
