HIMES, Elva I., 99, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2017 in Forest Glen. She was born near Epworth in Lewis County, KY on July 23, 1918 the younger daughter of the late Oscar J. Hord and Lettie Mae (Mineer) Hord. Elva married Orville Ross Himes on Christmas Day in 1939 in Maysville, KY, subsequently moved to Cincinnati and then on to the Springfield area in 1949. Love of family was central to their lives together and then continued with Elva until her death. She was a caring mother and devoted homemaker who took great joy in gardening, cooking and hosting family dinners. She loved sitting on the porch with family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1974, her sister Opal O'Cull in 2008 and her older son Ronald Himes in 2017. She is survived by her younger son, Larry Himes; grandchildren, Susan (Eric) White and Lance (Shannon) Himes and five beloved great grandchildren, Brandon (Nichole), Justin, and Alyssa White, and Owen and Lindsay Himes. The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Darr and the caregivers in the Forest Glen Memory Care Unit as well as those with Home Instead and from the Community Mercy Hospice program for the care and comfort they provided to her. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME with Hospice Chaplain Rhonda Alderman officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior beginning at 9:30 am. Burial will follow in Ferncliff Cemetery.
