Schutte, Edward C., 96, of Springfield, passed away Friday, January 29, 2016 in his home. With a smile on his lips and a prayer in his heart for loved ones left behind, Ed departed this life to rejoin his beloved wife Marguerite, of 63 years marriage, who died on July 25, 2005. Ed was born on September 22, 1919 in Springfield, OH to Edward H. and Alma (Baker) Schutte. A 1937 graduate of Catholic Central High School, he was hired that same year as one of the seven original apprentices hired in Gravure Prep at Crowell-Collier. His printing career included stops at Inta-Roto, Richmond, VA, Alco-Gravure, Glen Burnie, MD, back to Springfield Gravure and one last stop to Oxford Engraving, Dayton, OH as Superintendent, retiring September 22, 1984. He served as president of the Photo-Engravers Union in Richmond, in Annapolis of the Admiral Heights Association, and upon returning home, the Forest Hills Association in Springfield. Well known in local athletic circles before and after World War II, he continued playing while coaching grade school athletes in Annapolis and Springfield in all of their favorite sports. While serving four years in the Army Air Corps, he bowled on the Shaw Field championship team. He started bowling in 1938 and continued until the end of 2013. Upon transferring to Hickam Field and being in charge of all the mechanics on the field servicing C-54s (about 1,600), he still found time to play sports. Playing for the Hickam Globetrotters his teams won the CPA championship of the Pacific Islands. In 2007 Ed was the first person to be honored for his service to St. Bernard Church and School. Survivors include two children, Edward C., Jr. (Cynthia) and James K.; four grandchildren, Edward R., Jennifer, Kevin and Garth; three great grandchildren, Collin, Jenna, and Charlotte; one sister, Joanne; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite, in 2005; one son, Jon; and three siblings, Pauline, Maxine and Robert. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday at 11:30am in St. Bernard Church.
