Dr. George L. Smith

Smith, George L., D.D.S., 86, of Springfield died October 16, 2014 in Springfield Regional Medical Center. He was born March 4, 1928 in Dunkirk, OH to Thomas and Mary Maude (Bissinger) Smith. George retired in 1994 after a 35 year practice as an orthodontist. He attended Urbana University, graduated from The Ohio State University College of Dentistry as an orthodontist, was a member of the American Dental Association, former President of the Mad River Valley Dental Association, Elks Lodge #51, former member of Northwood Hills Country Club, received the Urbana University Alumni of the Year Award, and was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Doris (Johnson); two children, Mark (Cynthia) Smith, Springfield and Kimberly (Ralph) Roba; two grandchildren, Daniel (Molly) Smith and Maggie Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas and two sisters, Leone and Pauline. Private committal services will be held October 31st at Ferncliff Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are being handled by the CONROY FUNERAL HOME.
