Ackerman, David S., 73, of Springfield, passed away on May 16, 2016. David was born on January 27, 1943 in Springfield, the son of Elden Ackerman and Jessie Bickle Ackerman Aldridge. He had been employed as a Repairman for Navistar for 42 years, was a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church and UAW 402. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing with family and going to flea markets. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou (Cafeo); two children, Todd (Kim Perry) Ackerman of Lancaster, OH and Lisa (Shawn) Wiederkehr of Springfield; brother-in-law, Jerry Boswell; 11 grandchildren, Brad (Ashlee) Shuman, Tyler (Tiffany) Shuman, Maryah (Doug) Hess, Michael (Haley Bowshier) Ackerman, Nicholas Frock, Shaylynn Ackerman, Kasey Wiederkehr, Samantha Wiederkehr, Alyssa Wiederkehr, Amanda (Chris) Frey and Kelsey (Justin) Whitehead; four great-grandchildren, Ianna Hess, Noah Hess, Aubree Shuman, Bentley Ackerman and baby boy Shuman on the way; niece, Suni Boswell; best friend Roy (Bettie) Murray and his special neighbor, Jim Dunlap. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elden and Jessie; his sister, Geri Boswell and his step-dad Raymond Aldridge. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Monday in St. Raphael Catholic Church. Visitation will be held one hour prior, starting at 10:00am at church.
