FOWLER, Cynthia Kortright, 90, slipped away peacefully in her sleep on January 20, 2015 at the Springfield Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Huntington, Long Island, NY, to Dr. Warren P. Kortright and Sarah F. Kortright on Sept. 7, 1924. She graduated from Smith College in 1945, married Henry R. Fowler the following year and moved to Ohio. She is survived by her five children, Angus Fowler, Sally Day (Jerry), Charles Fowler (Debbie), Connie Strait (Blayne) and Douglas Fowler (Kathy), thirteen grandchildren: Christopher, Jeff, Brian, Lisa, Michael, Gretchen, Ben, Eva, Andy, Nick, Caitlin, Alex, Carrie and numerous great- and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also her dear, lifelong friend, Clari Bare of Unionville, CT. She was preceded in death by her sister, Ann K. Banerji of Woodbridge, CT., her brother, James M. Kortright of Santa Barbara, CA. and her former husband and friend, Henry. Following a career of teaching elementary school, Cynthia managed the B. Dalton bookstore at the Upper Valley Mall, followed by the Louisville, Ky., store management position. This led to her own business in antiquarian book selling. Her love of literature prompted her to attend many courses at the University of Louisville, where she became fast friends with Suzette Henke, Dale Billingsley and Tom Van. She spent many years, as a volunteer, sorting and pricing book for the Louisville public library book sale. Her friends at Church of the Advent were like family and helped sustain her faith. Cynthia was an intrepid traveler, enjoying trips both at home and abroad. The family would like to thank Signature Healthcare of Cherokee Park and Dr. Mary Barry in Louisville, Ky., as well as Essex Rehab with Dr. Vemana and Dr. Sullivan. We also want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Community Mercy Hospice with Dr. Kellogg, Dr. Ahern and their staff, as well as all of the SRMC staff for their excellent care and thoughtfulness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Church of the Advent in Louisville or to Community Mercy Hospice. A memorial service will be held in Louisville at a later date at the convenience of the family.
